Workplace Safety
Workplace Bullying02 March 2004Organisations throughout Australia are recognising the startling depth and breadth of a problem which has gone on for far too long. "Something has to be done and I personally intend to ensure that bullying is a priority issue for the PSA in 2004" says Sue Walsh, President of the Public Service Association of NSW. "It is the absolute legal responsibility of employers to ensure that the workplace is a safe and unthreatening environment for all workers. It is crucial that the control of bullying is a primary objective in that process". Following the 2003 PSA's Women's Conference which recognized the full extent of the dangers of workplace bullying, the PSA has committed to working with the Labor Council in their upcoming forum on the issue. In addition, Workcover is inviting public comment on its draft guide on Workplace Bullying. Dealing with Workplace Bullying: A Guide for Employers and Employees looks at the Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) implications of bullying and explains how employers and employees should deal with it. For more details on the Workcover draft guide visit Comments should be sent to workcover@act.gov.au by 31 April 2004. The final version of the guide is expected in May 2004.
