Pay increase for Sydney Uni staff
10 January 2003
The PSA has settled an Interim Agreement with Sydney University management delivering a 4% salary increase for general staff.
In return the union gave the University a commitment we will not take industrial action in support of our broader claim for the next Enterprise Agreement until May 1st 2003.
All staff, including general staff and academics, will receive the 4% increase from the first pay period on or after 1 March 2003.
The Agreement also protects current conditions of employment and guarantees there will be no job losses. The University also gave the PSA a commitment it would consult unions on finance and budgetary matters affecting the University.
The Agreement is the first step in achieving a comprehensive new enterprise agreement at Sydney University. We will continues to pursue our claim for improved employment conditions including further pay increases, limits on casualisation and a cap on excessive workloads.
Despite the interim pay increase, Sydney University management claim they cannot afford the full wage and conditions claim. Negotiations resume in February. The PSA hopes a final Agreement will be reached by May 2003.
Members of the CPSU will have the final say on the agreement. For further information contact the Enterprise Agreement Negotiating team:
