GeneralAustralian Workplace AgreementsFair Go for all - CPSU-SPSF
The ACTU's Fair Go at Work policy would restore fairness to the industrial relations system, State public sector unions said today. Community and Public Sector Union (State Public Services Federation) Joint National Secretary, David Carey said public sector workers throughout the country would benefit from the policy.
State corporations, Victorian public sector, higher education and University employers were already being forced to offer individual contracts to some employees.
"Public sector workers want to be represented by their union in negotiations and want to have a say in their working conditions," Mr Carey said.
The CPSU-SPSF was directly involved in drafting the policy.
"AWA individual contracts are driving down the wages and conditions of State public sector workers throughout Australia. "Under Workchoices the employer can refuse to collectively bargaing even if the employees want it. The employees in those circumstances have no choices. The rules Mr Combet suggest restore choice and fairness.
"If the majority of employees choose to be represented by their Union and want to bargain collectively rather than as individuals they should be given the right to do so," said Mr Carey.
