GeneralSchools Support StaffQld school support staff take action
School support staff across Queensland, angry that Education Queensland has failed to properly address issues of staff shortages and high workloads, will begin industrial action this week as part of a campaign for better-quality schools.
Alex Scott, QPSU general secretary, said "QPSU members have been trying to get Education Queensland to address these issues for years now in multiple different forums. We have been forced to this step because the department continues to overlook the important work performed by school support staff."
"School support staff keep our school grounds safely maintained and efficiently run, care for kids when they are sick, and work with children with special needs. These roles often go overlooked but without proper support, they cannot deliver the services that our community and our kids expect", Mr Scott said.
Stop-work meetings will be held in different schools in regions across the state.
Meetings will be held in the following regions:
Brisbane: 20 September from 2pm, Parliament House, George Street.
