GeneralEnergy PrivatisationStop the Sell-Off in NSWThe NSW branch of the CPSU-SPSF (PSA NSW) is asking union members throughout Australia and overseas to support a campaign to stop the State Government selling our power industry to private companies. Experience overseas and in other states has shown that private ownership of State resources leads to less reliable supply, higher prices and jobs held by our members sent offshore, said Joint Federal Secretary David Carey.
The ripple-on effect of this decision may also flow on to other sectors of the public sector.
"Funds collected from state ownership of electricity and other services are used to pay for schools, hospitals and other essential services," he said..
More than 400 union delegates met at UnionsNSW today to endorse a joint union campaign and condemn the State Government for the lack of consultation on this issue. "We are calling on Morris Iemma to stop the sell off, upgrade the current electricity infrastructure and invest in renewable energy.
"Selling this sector off to big business is a short-sighted decision that is not going to help Australia develop a reliable, efficient and sustainable electricity system" said Mr Carey.
Help the campaign. Go to www.stoptheselloff.org.au and send a message to Premier Morris Iemma.
