Higher EducationEnterprise BargainingBest Uni Pay RiseUTS and CPSU Set the Pace for Workplace BargainingThe Community and Public Sector Union has reached a landmark agreement on pay and conditions for general staff at the University of Technology Sydney, UTS. The Agreement will set a new benchmark for pay outcomes in the current University Enterprise Bargaining round. General Staff at UTS will receive a salary increase of over 20.5% in just over three years. General Staff are the non-academic workers in Universities, such as Professional, Clerical, Administrative and Technical workers. This agreement also provides for 20 weeks paid parental leave, paid partner leave of two weeks, and will significantly improve general staff job security, redundancy and redeployment provisions. CPSU State Branch Assistant Secretary, Steve Turner said, "This is an excellent outcome for UTS employees who because of reduced Federal Government funding have felt the squeeze since 1996. "This is a good indicator of what our Union will be seeking to achieve for hardworking General Staff in the other Universities and the Public Sector in this round of negotiations. CPSU UTS Branch President Alan Barnes, said "This has been one of the hardest rounds of enterprise bargaining because of the Federal Government's interference in the bargaining process last year" "It has been through the efforts of CPSU Union members at UTS that we have been able to achieve an outcome that will improve the work-life balance of all staff at UTS. UTS CPSU members voted on the agreement today. The vote was unanimous in favour of the Agreement.
