SchoolsGeneral Staff Recognition
Respect, Recognition, RightsCPSU National Recognition Week 23 - 27 August, 2004This week is CPSU Schools National Recognition Week and the theme is Respect, Recognition, Rights. There are more than 45,000 support staff working in schools throughout Australia. Most of them are women. Over half work part-time. They don't get paid during school holidays. They aren't paid enough for the work they do. They certainly aren't properly acknowledged for the contribution they make to the education of Australian kids. Of our kids. What do they do? Non-teaching staff also known as School Support staff or School Services staff handle all the operational matters behind the scenes. They manage libraries, kitchens, grounds and gardens. They administer school budgets. They make sure teaching staff get paid. They make sure your kids are looked after throughout the day. They are A Vital Link in the education of Australia's children. The Community and Public Sector Union represents non-teaching staff in public schools across the country. Since 2001 the CPSU has run National Recognition Week for non-teaching staff. The CPSU Schools National Recognition Week starts on Monday, 23rd August. Encourage as many parents, school children and community members to acknowledge the difference School Support teams make to our children's education.
