South Australian public sector employees are about to vote on a new deal following months of negotiations between the Public Service Association and the State Government. The PSA of South Australia is the S A Branch of the CPSU/SPSF.
An 8% Pay rise over 2 Years
Gains for working women:
Four weeks paid maternity/adoption leave.Ability to return to work on a part-time basis after maternity leave, preserving a right to resume full time employment. ALSO: Controls on workloads, better training and development, occupational health and safety.
Improvements have also been made to conditions relating to:
Salary Packaging TOIL, Child Care, Travel costs after Hours, Reclassification, Public Holiday Work"The PSA was determined that public sector employees would receive pay increases that matched those recently given to both Police and Nurses," said Ms McMahon.
"That means an increase of four per cent a year over the two year life of the Agreement, along with a continuing guarantee of job security and significant improvements to a range of conditions such as paid maternity leave, child care and salary packaging options," she said."In addition members will be able to take advantage of significant improvements to more flexible working arrangement, along with major changes for working women who take time off to have a family and want to return to work part time.
The agreement also provides for government to deal with workload issues and a major commitment to occupational health and training issues."The PSA will soon begin a series of workplace meetings to outline the full detail of the new agreement in the lead-up to a public sector wide ballot of members.
"I am confident that members will endorse the new agreement and benefit from many of the wide ranging improvements to working conditions achieved during lengthy negotiations," she said.
