Universities conditions : CPSU gets AIRC to better parental leave for casuals

Long term casual staff at universities in three states are now entitled to parental leave thanks to a sustained campaign by the CPSU-SPSF.
The Union has taken another practical step forward for those needing to balance work and family responsibilities, causal staff who have been employed for twelve months in universities will now have an award entitlement to take parental leave and return to their jobs.
The Unions claim delivers the benefit for staff at Adelaide University, QUT, and the Universities of Southern Queesland, Central Queensland, New England and Western Sydney.
"University awards now lead the public sector in parental leave provisions - our union, the CPSU has been instrumental in this" Joint National Secretary David Carey said today.
