The Industrial Relations Society of Western Australia held their State Conference and CPSU's Senior Industrial Officer Mark Perica outlined the unique nature of Crown employment and the disadvantage suffered by public sector employees compared to those who work in the private sector.  In his presentation Mark emphasised the particular challenges where public sector workers are confronting sovereign governments with hostile legislative agendas.  What is required is a sophisticated, meticulously planned  and multi faceted campaign strategy which includes industrial action, political engagement, communications with members and citizens, and a legal strategy.  Mark emphasised in the era of mass redundancies and Big Society style outsourcing it includes a battle of ideas around what is the nature of civil society and what services the State is required to provide to its most disadvantaged citizens for a fair society.
